BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - State Representative John Bel Edwards spoke to the East Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce Tuesday.
Edwards is a candidate for governor in a race that includes several Republican candidates.
Edwards recognized known conservatives in the audience, but says at least one issue eclipses party affiliation in this legislative session.
"I don't view this as a partisan issue," said Edwards. "There are at least 10 states led by Republican governors who've done the Medicaid expansion so it doesn't have to be and should not be a partisan issue.
"I can tell you that, not just talking to legislators, but lobbyists from different groups whether it's hospitals, insurance companies so forth, there are a lot more people this year than ever before, talking about the wisdom of taking the Medicaid expansion."
Governor Jindal has rejected the federal money saying adding people to medicaid could not be sustained if the feds ever ceased their funding.
