BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Knights of Peter Claver held their annual Teresa Mayfield Domestic Violence Awareness Luncheon at the River Center on Saturday afternoon.

Mayfield was a victim of domestic violence, and died in 2013.

"Ms. Teresa was very active in [the Knights]," says State Conference President Core Jean-Louis. "She was one of our youth leaders, so when the tragic situation happened, it really touched all of us in a special place in our hearts because she was a real close friend"

Representatives say that proceeds from the luncheon will go to area shelters and programs that help victims of domestic abuse.
