Woman dies in Port Vincent car crash

A Livingston woman is dead after an accident on Louisiana Highway 42.

Louisiana State Police say Friday just before 6 p.m., 21-year-old Alyssa Swain was driving eastbound on LA 42 when she attempted to pass the vehicle in front of her in a no passing zone. At the same time a pickup truck driven by 40-year-old James Pankotai was driving westbound on LA 42. When Swain entered the westbound lane to pass the car in front of her, she saw Pankotai's oncoming truck and attempted to re-enter the eastbound lane losing control of her vehicle. Swain re-entered the westbound lane and was hit by Pankotai's truck.

Although Swain was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, she died from her injuries as a result of the crash.

Routine toxicology tests were taken. Police do not believe Swain or Pankotai were impaired at the time of the accident.
