BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A super-cell thunderstorm with large hail, damaging winds and excessive lightning moved through areas of South Louisiana Thursday afternoon and evening.
The system generated wind gusts around 50 to 60 MPH and baseball-sized hail earlier in the afternoon.
Some of the worst damage was in Iberville Parish along Bayou Pigeon Road.
As of Friday, it is unknown if the winds that tore through the Bayou Pigeon community were from a tornado or from straight-line winds. The winds leveled homes and turned one trailer nearly upside down.
It also sliced through three more houses down the way, shattering glass and ripping off roofs.
First responders arrived on the scene to help people deal with the devastation.
Residents were still trying to pick up the pieces as the sun went down Friday night.
Sheriff Brett Stassi says that there were several trees down in the Iberville area. No reports of injuries as of yet.
