LSU's Bregman named to Brooks Wallace Award watch list

LUBBOCK, TX (WAFB) - LSU junior shortstop Alex Bregman has been named to the 2015 Brooks Wallace Award watch list.

The award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 29 in Lubbock.

Bregman is hitting .327 this season with 14 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 34 RBI, 41 runs and 24 steals in 28 attempts. He has a .974 fielding percentage, committing six errors in 229 chances.

The SEC and Pac-12 each have five players on the watch list. The West Coast Conference has four players on the list. The ACC, Big South and Big West conferences each have three players on the list.

Other SEC players on the watch list include Mikey White (Alabama), Richie Martin (Florida), Nick King (Georgia) and Dansby Swanson (Vanderbilt).

In 2013, Bregman became the first freshman to win the Brooks Wallace Award after posting a .369 batting average and .939 fielding percentage for the Tigers.
