BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There will be more of a police presence in the Downtown area later this year.
Chief Carl Dabadie says they are working on moving the Downtown District into a new place with more room. Dabadie says right now there are officers working Downtown, but they do not have the staff to provide patrols around the clock.
"What we're looking to do is a '24 hour a day, 7 day a week' district," said Dabadie. "Once this academy that we just started this past week graduates, that'll allow us some room to move some of those officers down to the Downtown area to give us that full coverage."
Cheif Dabadie says they hope the move is complete by October.
Currently police patrols in the Downtown area end at 3 a.m.
