BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Through organ donation, one person can help save dozens of lives. That was the message behind an event on the LSU's Parade Grounds on Thursday to raise awareness of organ donation.
The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency teamed up with students to help spread the word about the need for organ donors right now. According to LOPA, there are more than 19,000 residents in the Bayou State waiting on an organ.
"Coming into college all I knew about LOPA and organ donation was the heart I got on my license," said student Courtney McGuffee. "Now after working for 18 weeks with this organization I know that I can save and enhance over 61 lives through organ donation. I think it's important for students to know that. That you can leave a legacy and you can be a hero."
