BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Dozens of people showed up Thursday morning to celebrate a milestone at Southern University.
They all marked 125 years as an 1890 land grant institution with a wellness walk.
Students, faculty and alumni walked 1,890 seconds, or a little more than 30 minutes, to commemorate the occasion.
According to school officials, the 1890 land grant institutions helped create America's middle class.
The $18.90 registration fee from those who participated in the event will go toward the campus' Justin Morrill Scholarship Fund, which is named in honor of the father of the land grant institutions.
