BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Students received an inside look at a place most people don't get to see as part of Earth Day.
Waste Management workers took fourth graders to their north landfill Wednesday. Students saw exactly how a landfill works and what Waste Management does to help the environment. They had a little fun, too, making Earth Day bracelets and some sand art.
Officials said they hope tours like this one will inspire children to do something each day to help the environment.
"We at Waste Management, we think green every day and every day is Earth Day," said Tricia Farace. "We hope that, you know, teaching them as youth that they will grow up to be environmental stewards as we have become."
The program was part of Waste Management's Eco Friendly Youth Education Day. Students all across Louisiana participated in similar programs.
