BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - No. 1 LSU used nine pitchers, who combined to shut out Tulane in a one-hit game, as the Tigers opened a five-game homestand Tuesday night with a 6-0 victory over the Green Wave.
Dutchtown freshman Austin Bain picked up the victory, working the first two scoreless innings and allowing the only hit to John Gandolfo in the second inning. Fellow freshman Jake Godfrey was the only other pitcher to work more than one inning. He struck out three in two hitless frames.
Connor Hale was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Chris Chinea hit his sixth home run of the season in his first action since receiving four stitches to his chin after being beaned in the Georgia series Saturday.
LSU (35-6, 12-5) will now prepare to host Texas A&M (also 12-5 in the SEC) in a big three-game weekend series starting Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Tulane (24-16) travels to Cincinnati this weekend.
