BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police say that a teenager was killed Saturday morning on Interstate 59 in St. Tammany Parish.
Troopers began investigating a fatal crash at about 6:30 Saturday morning on I-59 near Pearl River. Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Andrew Flores.
Through evidence and witness testimony gathered at the scene, police were able to determine that Flores was a passenger in the rear seat of a Nissan Altima. State Police say that, for reasons that are still under investigation, Flores began to interfere with the driver. After the driver pulled over on the interstate shoulder, Flores got out of the vehicle and stepped into the road, according to police investigations.
Investigators say that Flores was then hit by a truck traveling northbound. The driver of the truck submitted himself to a breath test, which returned no detectable traces of alcohol.
Troopers believe that Flores was under the influence of alcohol when he was hit. A blood sample was taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for further analysis.
