GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

A woman is asking the city of Gonzales to fix an issue that comes up nearly every time it rains.

Nedra Washington lives on the corner of Orice Roth Road and Ringer Avenue in Gonzales. She said her yard floods every time it rains.

"It looks like a lake," Washington said. "Something has to be done. This is enough."

Alvin Broussard, head of Gonzales Public Works, said the city would love to help her, but it is not the city's responsibility since her street is not in its coverage area.

"Orice Roth Road is a state highway and is out of our jurisdiction," Broussard said. "The ditches and the highway both belong to the state, so DOTD is responsible."

A spokesperson from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said officials are aware of the problem and will look in to it.

Washington said Thursday that someone from the department contacted her about the issue.
