BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - State transportation leaders got a bit of good news Wednesday. DOTD got the $2 million they wanted the legislature to divert for operating expenses.
They requested it at the House Appropriations Committee.
The department says the $2 million was spent over the winter for icy roads and worker overtime pay. The request still caused debate between a pair of senators.
"That's the right thing to do historically perspective," Sen. Francis C. Thompson, D-Delhi.
"I'd like to change the historical perspective so that we stop taking money out of DtF every time something comes along and that's why I'm objecting and I'm going to continue that objection." said Sen. Jack Donahue, R-Mandeville.
The committee passed the budget adjustment with a 21 to 10 vote.
DOTD says, without the money, they would have had to cut back next year on keeping up with our roads.
