BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Local, state and federal agencies met in Baton Rouge Wednesday to begin preparing for hurricane season.
The Emergency Operation Center at the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness was activated as part of a larger exercise set to take place this weekend.
The people there will put the disaster response methods of several agencies to the test.
It will include helicopter and boat search and rescue operations, restoring order to communities after disasters and medical support among other things.
"It's critical to our response, our local partners and the federal response in any type of disaster when we go through these exercises," said Kevin Davis, GOHSEP Director.
The mock emergency drill happens on Saturday.
The Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1st.
