THIBODAUX, LA (WAFB) - Police said a man who has been convicted of theft eight times has been arrested for allegedly stealing money from the fast food restaurant where he worked.

"After eight theft convictions, you would think he would stop and tell himself, 'you know, I'm not very good at this, but obviously, he didn't get that memo," said David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department.

The Thibodaux Police Department reported Dre Robertson, 21, of Thibodaux, was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a charge of felony theft of goods. His bond is set at $5,000.

Detectives said Robertson is accused of taking money from the cash registers by doing fake refunds for customers that didn't exist. They added he is suspected of swiping more than $888 in a little over a month.

"At first, he would do small refunds, then it appears he got really comfortable and would make refunds bordering $100," said Melancon. "Video footage revealed that he would make these transactions without a customer at the register."

The investigation is ongoing.
