BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - One of the first bills to pass a senate committee room would require law enforcement to undergo additional training for sexual assault and violence cases.
Senator J.P. Morell says that the bill is the first of its kind in 20 years.
"It's very important that our law enforcement have appropriate, accurate training," says Morrell, "so that they're able when they're engaged with a victim of sexual violence to know what they're doing to build the strongest case possible and to put the bad guys away."
The bill, introduced by Morrell, will now go to the senate floor for another vote. If that passes the floor, it will then go to members of the house.
