GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - City of Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson has announced that John Sanchez of St. Amant voluntarily turned himself into police and has been charged with negligent homicide in an accident that resulted in the death of 66-year-old Floyd Cox.
Police say on February 22nd Cox was driving westbound on Interstate 10 in Gonzales when he was hit by 27-year-old Sanchez. Cox's vehicle became airborne and landed in a grassy area adjacent to the interstate.
At the time of the accident, Sanchez was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had his injuries scanned and then taken to the City of Gonzales Police Department for questioning.
During questioning, Sanchez admitted to speeding on his way to work. At that time he was arrested and charged with one count of reckless operation and one count of driving under suspension.
Sanchez has been booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. His bail has been set at $100,000.
