Police arrest suspect in Blvd. de Province shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police arrested a 20-year-old man for negligent injury after he allegedly shot his friend in the head accidentally when he fired a gun multiple times in the air to break up a fight.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Qwenton Bureau was booked on a charge of illegal use of a weapon and negligent injury. He was arrested Thursday night.

According to the probable cause report, Bereau and the victim were in the BREC park on Boulevard de Province at roughly 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday. An alleged fight broke out and investigators say Bereau admitted to firing a gun in the air four times.

Officers said the victim was found lying in a parking lot. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released.

Bureau's bond has been set at $15,000.
