BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

An event was held in Baton Rouge Thursday honoring the past year's Silent Heroes, people who choose to donate their organs after their deaths.

The decision is very important to the people these heroes help. Some of those who have received transplants gather together to remember the people who gave a new start for others.

A ceremony took place in the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center's chapel before the families of the Silent Heroes went outside to release butterflies in their honor.

To symbolize the rebirth, people were given paper triangles that contained dormant butterflies. As the paper was unfolded, the sleepy butterflies woke and fluttered away.

The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency said that at Our Lady of the Lake in 2014, 25 organ donors gave 65 people life-saving transplants, while eye cornea donations gave sight to 44 people.
