French tourists visit Gonzales for 'Ascension Day'

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Visitors from Meylan, France were brought to Gonzales for a special "Ascension Day" tour of the city.

The Gonzales Committee on Cultural Affairs along with Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux made three stops in Ascension parish to show the French visitors local entertainment options.

First was the Houmas House plantation home. Tour guides spoke in the French language during the house tour that also covered the house grounds and garden.

The tour's next stop was at EATEL's Community Connection television show, which provides interviews with area leaders and figureheads. The visitors recorded a few segments for the show, and moved on to the final stop of the tour at Premier Lanes. The guests were treated to local specialty foods like Alligator, and bowled in the VIP area of the building.

The French visitors will travel to Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and other areas around the state.
