BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - At the State Capitol Tuesday, a simple childhood toy was on display to help raise awareness about child abuse.
The dozens of bright blue pinwheels were put together on the Capitol steps. Each represents a child's bright future.
Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, a statewide non-profit organization, hopes to plant 2,000 of the pinwheels on the Capitol lawn. Organizers say preventing abuse could save a life.
"We really want people to understand that child abuse prevention is really as easy as recognizing when parents in the community are struggling and helping to connect them to community resources," said Amanda Brunson with Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana.
The group has a hotline for parents to help connect them to resources when they need it, 1-800-CHILDREN (1-800-244-5373).
