BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge District Attorney's Office plans to launch an investigation into claims of fraud involving the petition for the proposed City of St. George.
Almost 2,700 of the nearly 18,000 signatures needed were found to not be valid.
DA Hillar Moore got a complaint from a man who's name was forged. Moore says calls also came from people working to secure names on the petition.
"Today or tomorrow, I am going to send a letter to Secretary of State Tom Schedler's office to assist me in this investigation," said Moore.
Moore says no one has been interviewed at this point and there's a lot of work to do to look into this matter.
St. George organizers reported that the people accused of forging signatures were brought in by the private firms they hired to boost the petition effort.
