BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Three organizations screened a new Smithsonian documentary about Lead Belly at the Manship Theater on Monday.
Forum 35, Dialogue on Race Louisiana and the Baton Rouge Blues Foundation all think people of the area need to appreciate Baton Rouge swamp blues more.
"The Blues Festival coming up is rather the right time for us to do something that highlights those rich roots that are here and give everybody a little bit deeper appreciation for how the blues originated here and how it's affected the community and our lives," said Katie Barlow with Forum 35.
Once they viewed the documentary, panelists took the chairs below the screen to discuss Baton Rouge blues and the importance of the musical treasure trove of culture.
Baton Rouge Blues Fest is Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
