BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Baton Rouge Police Department welcomed a few new members of the force Monday.

Graduation ceremonies were held Monday morning at BRPD headquarters for five officers who completed a six-week training program. The officers received their badges and training certificates.

The training is shorter because the officers previously served with other law enforcement agencies.

Chief Carl Dabadie says he is proud they decided to join his team.

"Because we're so large, we offer a multitude of different areas of expertise. They can go into detective division. They can go into motorcycles, if they want to. They can go into crime scene or canine," said Dabadie. "That's attractive to some officers who aspire to be better."

Over 600 officers currently work for BRPD.

The new officers all have at least two years of street experience from prior jobs.
