Man attempts to set ex-girlfriend's house on fire

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man has been arrested after he attempted to set his girlfriend's house on fire.

Police say just before 2 p.m. yesterday they received a call from a woman saying that her ex-boyfriend, 54-year-old Leper Lewis Jr., was trying to set her house on fire with her inside of it.

The woman says that Lewis was upset because she broke up with him and no longer wanted any contact with him. She says that is when Lewis showed up to her house and began to pour gasoline in front of her doors and windows and attempted to light the house on fire.

When police arrived, Lewis had left the scene. The woman told police that he could be driving a maroon Chevy pickup truck. Lewis was later spotted by police, pulled over and arrested.

Lewis was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he was booked with attempted aggravated arson and attempted 1st degree murder.

He is currently being held on $80,000 bond.
