Slidell police: 'Drunk, belligerent' man shot officer in leg

SLIDELL, LA (AP) - Slidell police say a man with a history of confronting police is accused of shooting an officer who answered a bar's call for help. Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says 28-year-old Jeremy Lackey is being held on three counts of attempted murder of a police officer. It was not clear whether Lackey has an attorney who could comment.

Seuzeneau says Sgt. Cliff Laigast is recovering at home. He was shot in the leg Friday night.

He said Saturday that police were called to a bar where witnesses said Lackey was drunk, belligerent and trying to pick fights.

Seuzeneau says Lackey's friends were escorting him out of the bar when police arrived, but he pushed away, got a gun from his motorcycle, and began shooting at police.

Seuzeneau says Lackey has confronted officers in other areas, including California.
