BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators said a man accused of shooting a man outside a club was arrested when he was pulled over and didn't have a valid driver's license.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Daniel Valdez, 20, of Denham Springs, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted second-degree murder and attempted armed robbery.

Detectives said the shooting happened outside Club Dreams on Dallas Drive on March 7 around 12:30 a.m.

According to the probable cause report, the victim told officers the suspect wanted money to get into the club and when he refused, Valdez allegedly pulled out a gun and tried to take his cash.

The report stated the victim and a few others tried to take the gun from the suspect and the victim was shot in the stomach. Witnesses said Valdez drove off in a Jeep Cherokee after the shooting.

According to investigators, he was pulled over in Denham Springs on Tuesday and was arrested because he didn't have a driver's license. It was later learned he was a suspect in the shooting.

The investigation continues.
