Local high school students compete in environmental competition

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Local students participated in the 2015 Envirothon environmental competition that was held March 14th at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens in Baton Rouge.

Five teams from grades 9th through 12th participated in an environmental problem solving competition. Students were tested on aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and a current issue in Urban and Community Forestry. The students were also asked to give an oral presentation.

Several schools from the area participated such as Baton Rouge Magnet High School, Live Oak High School, Baton Rouge Magnet High School - Environmental Club, St. Joseph's Academy-Team EnviroFun and Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (Blue Team).

Baton Rouge Magnet High School's Environmental Club took home first place in the competition. Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts won 2nd place and Baton Rouge Magnet High School came in 3rd place.

The following is a list of who scored the highest on each different test: 

• Aquatics: Baton Rouge Magnet High School-Environmental Club
• Forestry: Baton Rouge Magnet High School-Environmental Club
• Soils: Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (Blue Team)
• Wildlife: Baton Rouge Magnet High School
• Current Issue on Urban Forestry: Baton Rouge Magnet High School
• Orals: Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts (Blue Team)
