BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A night out turned deadly for a man who was shot outside a club and his killer remains on the loose.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Braden Larvadain, 35, was killed on Dec. 16, 2014 across the street from the Duck Off Nightclub on North Foster Drive near Jefferson Avenue.

The club is a pretty popular place in north Baton Rouge and it was packed that night. Sometime during the evening, Larvadain took a walk across the street with two other people.

Detective Sherri Harris with BRPD said that's the last walk he'd ever take.

"He was accompanied by several males as he walked to the location where he was discovered," Harris said. "He was lured behind a business. That's when shots rang out. He managed to stagger out to the front."

Larvadain fell right across the street from the packed bar.

There is great confidence that somebody heard something and walked out to look. In fact, people did go outside, but it's what surveillance video shows them doing that is so hard to believe, even for a seasoned detective.

"It was very heart-wrenching to watch individuals stand over a victim while he's taking his last breath and go through his belongings," Harris explained.

In different surveillance video, others can be seen shining cell phone lights on the scene to better pick through his pockets. They took everything, even his identification, so he was classified as a “John Doe” for a while.

Harris said that made the job of the investigators even more difficult.

"It took detectives a long time to discover who he was and tell his family to get down to the hospital before he passed away," she added.

This victim was not only shot and killed, but he was robbed while he was dying.

Now, his family is looking for answers and police continue to hunt for a killer.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
