DALLAS, TX (WAFB) - Federal Authorities say that Blue Bell is expanding a recall of some of their ice cream products due to possible exposure to the listeria bacteria.
Blue Bell is now recalling their 3-ounce cups of vanilla, chocolate and vanilla ice cream with tab lids on them.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the cups could be contaminated with the bacteria which could cause listeria can be potentially fatal in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. So far five people in Wichita, Kansas have contracted listeria from eating the ice cream while hospitalized for unrelated health reasons. According the FDA, three of them have died.
Earlier this month, the Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham, Texas recalled several other products made on the same production line after listeria was detected.
