BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said one person was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening after a shooting Tuesday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the shooting happened on Valcour Drive around 7:30 a.m. while an 18-year-old was walking to an area restaurant for breakfast.
The 18-year-old told police two men tried to rob him and then attacked him.
After the 18-year-old was shot, he ran for help to Melrose Elementary.
Melrose Elementary was put on lockdown as a precautionary measure, as the shooting did not occur on school grounds and there were no students at the school when the shots were fired.
The victim's name was not released.
Detectives did not release a description of the shooter.
The investigation is ongoing.
