(UNDATED) - A recent report shows Louisiana ranks near the top of the list of states most dependent on the federal government.
According to a WalletHub study, Louisiana ranks No. 43 overall on the dependency list from least to most. Organizers said they looked at four key areas to compile the findings.
They analyzed the return on taxes paid to the federal government, federal funding as a percentage of state revenue, the number of federal employees per capita and the number of civilian non-defense federal employees per capita.
The results for Louisiana were as follows:
Return on taxes paid to the federal government: $1.37 (Rank: 36)
Federal funding as percentage of state revenue: 42.21% (Rank: 48)
Federal employees per capita: 0.00840 (Rank: 21)
Number of civilian non-defense federal employees per capita: 0.00315 (Rank: 19)
New Mexico came in last on the list. Mississippi was No. 49, Kentucky was 48 and Alabama was 47.
New Jersey was No. 1, with Delaware ranking at No. 2.
