VALLEY MILLS, TX (WAFB) - Authorities in Texas say a tanker car was leaking an industrial solvent after a dozen train cars derailed near Valley Mills Saturday night.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper D.L. Wilson says there were no injuries or fires reported as a result of the accident.
Some homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution. Initially is was believed that one of the tanker cars was leaking methanol but it was later discovered that the tanker was actually leaking dimethylformamide, which if inhaled it could cause nausea and vomiting.
A hazardous materials crew was there to work on cleaning up the scene.
Wilson says that the cause of the derailment is unclear but heavy rain made it difficult for clean up crews to get to the scene.
