BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 34-year-old Baton Rouge man was found guilty of manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm Friday.
Brandon Hickerson was on trial for murder and attempted murder charges after he allegedly pulled a gun and fired at several people, killing one of them.
Everett Collins, 31, of Baton Rouge, died at a Baton Rouge hospital after being hit by gunfire in the shooting that happened in the 4500 block of Clayton Drive around midnight on April 11, 2011.
Investigators reported Hickerson, Collins and a group of friends were hanging out in front of Collins' home when Hickerson started arguing with a woman. Hickerson drew a handgun and shot at the woman, but Collins was hit instead.
Hickerson was arrested a short time and was charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
