Sheriff warns of phone scam involving man posing as St. Martin Parish Deputy

ST. MARTINVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a man who is calling people posing as one of its deputies.

Deputies report that the suspect called a resident in the parish with a foreign accent asking for information on a relative. The man became upset when the caller didn't give him the information he wanted.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office asks people to be extremely cautious of anyone seeking any personal information or money. Deputies remind the public never to give out information such as social security number, date of birth, or credit card numbers in those types of situations.

Deputies ask anyone who encounters any suspicious activity or wants to report an instance of this scam to call the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office at (337) 394-3071.
