BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators believe someone intentionally started a fire Tuesday that spread to nearby condominiums and left a family homeless.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened at the Stumberg Condominiums on Stumberg Lane just before 7 p.m. The cause has been determined to be arson.
Fire officials said they think two vehicles parked under the awning of the building were set on fire. They added the flames then spread up an outside wall of the building and into the attic.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly put out the flames, but they said a family of five is now homeless because their unit is unlivable.
The Red Cross is helping them out.
The fire reportedly caused about $65,000 worth of damage to the condos.
Firefighters with the St. George Fire Department also responded and helped put out the flames.
Anyone with information about who may be responsible for the fire is urged to call 354-1419.
