BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - City leaders broke ground Tuesday morning on a 75,000 square foot facility on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge near Bayou Manchac.
ABB, a leading power and automation technology group, replacing their current 65,000 sq. ft. factory in Baton Rouge with a new one that will have 10,000 additional square feet.
Mayor Kip Holden says ABB, which makes industrial level measurement devices used by multiple industries including oil and gas, will put Baton Rouge on the map. Products from the facility will be shipped globally.
"The location for the factory was chosen to enable ABB to best meet our business' expansion needs while also remaining in the Baton Rouge area where we have called home for our level products for nearly 40 years," said Brain Miller, the General Manager of the new facility. "The Baton Rouge area offers great quality of life for our employees and gives us access to an excellent skilled workforce to support our future growth plans."
The bigger factory, which is expected to employ 50 more people over the next five years, should be finished by the end of the year. The existing factory employs 150 people. ABB will be looking to hire engineers, technicians and skilled professionals involved in industrial technologies.
