BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Did you know Tuesday March 16th was Ryland Percy Day?
9News has learned the City of Gonzales celebrated it with a certificate. Not a parade, not a festival with a cookoff, but with a certificate.
You see him standing to the left of the certificate while Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux is right. Percy was the Gonzales City Attorney, representing the town in every legal battle, for 25 years. That tenure might've gone on further, but he retired last February.
Percy has been the Senior Managing Partner of the law firm Percy, Stromberg, Bush and Lanoux since 1977. He was no rookie when he took the job with the city. He had served in the US Navy where, as a Rear Admiral, he was Commander of the Logistics Task Force Atlantic. That's just one of the command assignments he received while in the Navy, due to his reputation for excellence.
"I have known Ryland for many years," said Mayor Arceneaux, "on both a professional and a personal level. In fact, I believe I was one of his first clients. I am sorry to see him go, but have such fond memories of working with him, and know that our new City Attorney, Erin Wiley Lanoux, also with Percy, Stromberg, Bush and Lanoux, will also do a fine job."
As council members reminisced about the times they were helped by Percy, he reminded everyone, "I truly love this town." Percy added, "It has been my honor and my privilege to work with all of you and council members before you. I love Gonzales and am happy to have served my time in a city I love."
