LABADIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A Napoleonville man has died following a crash that occurred during an early morning police chase in Assumption Parish.
State Troopers say just after 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, they attempted to pull over a 2005 Chrysler 300 for speeding on LA 308. The car driven by 21-year-old Darrell Thomas then led officers on a high-speed chase with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
After traveling on several different roads and highways, Thomas turned back onto LA 308 and began traveling north. Just north of the Lafourche Parish line, Thomas attempted to make a left hand curve and his car left the roadway, struck a culvert, became airborne and hit a utility pole.
Thomas, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Officers say that speed is a factor in the crash and toxicology tests are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
