Prairieville man turns himself into APSO for ATV thefts

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office says that a Prairieville man wanted for a number ATV thefts has turned himself in Monday afternoon.

27-year-old Melvin Cox Jr. has been booked into the Ascension Parish Jail after turning himself over to APSO authorities.

Detectives received a tip in February that Cox was responsible for a number of thefts in the Prairieville area. The tip led detectives to Cox's home where they found several 3-wheelers and a 4-wheeler that were later identified as stolen.

On March 11th authorities spotted Cox walking on Norwood Road in Prairieville. When they attempted to apprehend him, Cox escaped on foot.

Cox was wanted for three counts of theft and three counts of criminal trespass.
