BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

An employee of Florida Baptist Church Day Care in Baton Rouge was fired after video showed the woman pushed a 1-year-old girl to the ground and later dragged her by the arm and slammed her against a wooden cabinet, according to a warrant from the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The incident happened on Jan. 13, 2015. According to the warrant, the Department of Children and Family Services contacted the Baton Rouge Police Department on Feb. 27, 2015.

The warrant states the incident was captured on video and when the day care administration saw the video, 49-year-old Melissa Schexnayder was fired.

Schexnayder told another day care employee the child's nose was bleeding because of allergies, and the video showed her cleaning a spot on the floor where the victim was laying face down.

Schexnayder has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile. She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where she was released on a $7,500 bond.
