ST. MARY PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after an accident in St. Mary's Parish.

Louisiana State Police responded to a call of a two-vehicle crash on LA 87 near Briar Drive near Franklin just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers said Teala M. Bernard, 33, of Chareton was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on LA 87 when she crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2006 Dodge Durango.

Bernard, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man who was a passenger in Bernard's vehicle was flown to a hospital by helicopter and is listed in critical condition. Two young children in the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries in the crash.

Authorities said impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor in the accident. A toxicology report is pending while the crash is still under investigation.
