LSU baseball clobbers Ole Miss to take first SEC series win
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Top-ranked LSU flexed its muscle after seeing its 14-game win streak snapped Saturday night, clobbering Ole Miss 18-6 on Sunday to win its opening SEC series with the Rebels.
Connor Hale, Alex Bregman and Jared Foster all connected for home runs as LSU (18-2, 2-1) piled up 19 hits against six Rebels pitchers.
Ole Miss (10-9, 1-2) took a 1-0 lead on freshman Jake Godfrey in the first inning, but LSU responded with a five-run first of its own and kept scoring in all but two innings of the game. Andrew Stevenson scored four runs and made another spectacular catch in center field as the Tigers scored ten straight runs for a 10-1 lead.
The Tigers responded to a couple of Ole Miss runs in the sixth with eight more to take an 18-3 lead into the ninth. Sikes Orvis hit a tape-measure run for Ole Miss in the ninth to provide the game's final score. Hale was 3-for-4, Bregman 3-for-6 and Kade Scivicque 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead LSU's attack.
