No serious injuries were reported Thursday morning after a school bus transporting 12 students from Katherine Drexel Elementary School in Lafayette ran off the road.
The investigation into the accident revealed the bus driver, 50-year-old John Harvey Bernard, may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The crash happened near La Flamme Road in Broussard. Bernard was cited for careless operation of a vehicle. He initially told deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office he was forced off of the road. The investigation revealed no other vehicle was involved in the crash.
The accident is still under investigation pending result from a blood alcohol content test give to the bus driver.
