LSU baseball beats McNeese St. in 7-0 shutout

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Top-ranked LSU won its final tune-up for SEC play and extended its winning streak to 13 games, beating McNeese State 7-0 Wednesday at Alex Box Stadium.

A school-record eleven pitchers for the Tigers combined for a 5-hit shutout and Alex Bregman hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to highlight the victory.

LSU (16-1) moved the game originally scheduled for 6:30 pm to 4:00 in hopes of avoiding inclement weather, but most of the contest was played in a steady rain.

Parkview's Russell Reynolds was awarded the pitching victory for working the first two scoreless frames, allowing just one hit, while closer Jesse Stallings came on the record the final out with one pitch in the ninth and set the record for pitchers appearing in a single contest.

Ethan Stremmel, the first of seven Cowboys pitchers was charged with the loss for McNeese (11-6) after allowing four runs on five hits in three innings of work.

Bregman added a fourth run batted in with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, scoring Mark Laird who had walked and stole two bases. Laird was 2-for-2 on the day and scored three runs.

LSU returns to action Friday night at 7:00 for the first game of its SEC opening series against Ole Miss.
