BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The US Marshals are honoring Deputy US Marshal Josie Wells with a procession back to Mississippi. Other agencies are involved with the transport as well.The Baton Rouge Fire Department is holding a "Crossing of the Ladders," which is only held when one is killed in the line of duty.
A task force made up of law enforcement from the Baton Rouge area and the US Marshals Service went to the Elm Grove Motel Tuesday morning to arrest 31-year-old Jamie Croom for a double homicide that happened in New Roads, La. in February 18.
During the serving of the arrest warrant, there was a shootout and Deputy US Marshal Josie Wells was fatally shot in the neck.
Croom was shot multiple times and died early Wednesday morning from his injuries.
Wells was from Jackson, MS.
