Five BASF interns graduate Work-Ready

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Tuesday, BASF Geismar announced that five students from River Parishes Community College now have process technology college credits after hands-on learning at the plant. Chad Wascom from Hammond, Fredrick Wallace from Prairieville, Kelly Peltier from Pontchatoula, Jake Boriel from St Amant, and a guy not in the picture, Steve Nguyen from Gonzales all received certification diplomas Tuesday.

BASF has been helping schools prepare workers for chemical manufacturing careers. Corporate officials call that growing the "talent pipeline".

Dale Doty, PHD is chancellor of RPCC.

He says "The program provides invaluable experience with day-to-day realities of the workplace. RPCC faculty also gain immediate feedback from our industry partners on our program changes or improvements needed so that we're producing work-ready graduates."

Dr. Doty said last year, BASF donated $100,000 to RPCC's new campus in Gonzales. It was used to help fund construction of an Advanced Technology Training Center.
