DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office have arrested the suspect of a deadly shooting in Donaldsonville.

Deputies reported the shooting happened a little bit after 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of St. Vincent Street. The victim, 21-year-old Michael Stewart, was shot on the front porch of a house, according to Sheriff Jeff Wiley.

Stewart was taken to the hospital in critical condition before dying from his injuries shortly after arriving.

The suspect, 26-year-old Shawn Broom, turned himself in Tuesday around 8 p.m. after being sought by APSO deputies earlier in the evening.

Broom was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. His bond has been set at $500,000.
