Sheriff: Man in stolen vehicle says 'I was drunk and made a stupid mistake'

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office say a man admitted to stealing from vehicles after he ran from deputies and was found with the stolen items.

Early Sunday morning, deputies were called to the 9900 block of Jefferson Woods about a man pulling on vehicle door handles. During the communication with dispatch, they learned the vehicle the man was driving was reported as stolen from East Feliciana Parish.

When responding to the call, the deputy saw the suspect vehicle turning onto Julia Aubin Lane from Siegen Lane and called for backup. The suspect vehicle turned south onto Airline Highway, where a marked uniform patrol deputy got behind the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop.

According to the probable cause report, the vehicle quickly pulled into the Jack-In-The-Box parking lot and quickly drove through the parking lot and onto Siegen Lane at a high rate of speed. The vehicle did not slow down when it made a right turn onto Julia Aubin Ln., then turned onto Telsmar Ave. and then left the roadway.

Reports say the driver, now identified as 24-year-old Forrest Wesley Allen, jumped out of the moving vehicle and jumped down an embankment next to a canal.

The vehicle rolled down into the canal.

The deputy chased Allen on foot for approximately 50 yards before he was captured.

After Allen was arrested, two victims contacted the Sheriff's Office reporting items had been stolen from their vehicles.

One victim reported her DVD player, black makeup bag and Blue Cross debit card were stolen. Deputies found the debit card in Allen's pocket and the makeup bag and DVD player were inside the vehicle he jumped out of.

The second victim reported $20 in Chuck E. Cheese coins and Rayban sunglasses were stolen. The items were also found in the vehicle.

Allen admitted to the charges and told deputies he was drunk and made a stupid mistake.

Allen is currently on probation for a simple burglary charge, according to the probable cause report.

He has been charged with burglary, theft, illegal possession of stolen things, flight from an officer, resisting an officer, reckless operation of a vehicle.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where his bond has been set at $26,000.
