BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - State Representative Franklin Foil, R-Baton Rouge, has filed a Constitutional Amendment for the upcoming 2015 Legislative Session which gives colleges control of raising their own fees without Legislative approval.
The Amendment will make adjustments to current law, which requires a two-thirds vote of the members elected to each house in relation to the imposition or an increase in post-secondary education fees.
Rep. Foil's amendment will remove this requirement. Currently, Louisiana is the only state that requires a two-thirds vote of the Legislature for a college to increase a fee.
Rep. Foil said, "I look forward to bringing this constitutional amendment this upcoming Session, and I hope for favorable passage in order to give our colleges more stability and control over their budgets."
